Notes:

  • Additional hard disk space is needed to meet the requirements of the installed applications and the volume of files being processed.
  • ActivePDF does not officially support running DocConverter in a Remote Desktop Services (RDS), Terminal Services or Citrix® environment.

New Features

For more details, see the linked entries in the New Features page of the DocConverter API Reference Guide or the DocConverter Quick Start Guide.
New settings are available in both the API and the Configuration Manager unless otherwise noted.

  • By default, PDF-to-image conversions create a single image file for each PDF page. You can now use the new ToImageStitchPagesto combine all the PDF pages into a single output image file, with the choice of stitching them together vertically or horizontally.
  • The SetPDFSecurityAESmethod has a new parameter that allows you to select either 128-bit or 256-bit AES encryption.
  • (API setting only) The new UseSecureConnectionproperty allows you to use HTTPS for secure connections when working in the COM environment.
Note: DocConverter's .NET connections use WCF, which is secure by default.
  • The SetWordExportOptionsmethod has a new parameter to select to bitmap fonts when they cannot be embedded.
  • You can now use the SetTIFFConversionOptionsmethod to specify whether or not to use the orientation and compression defined in the TIFF image files when converting TIFF image files to PDF.
  • During PDF conversions, page objects and fonts are now compressed by default, resulting in output PDFs with smaller file sizes. Use the new SetPDFCompressionmethod to turn this feature on or off.
  • (Configuration Manager setting only.) On by default: DocConverter now uses the local time (from the computer's Time and Date Registry settings) to date emails during conversion to PDF, instead of UTC.
  • (Configuration Manager setting only.) You can now set the Delayed Queue Timerto delay DocConverter's start time for processing an input file in a Watch Folder. This can be used when converting very large files, it allows time for the Microsoft OS to finish copying in a file to the Watch Folder.

Other Changes:

  • The default PDF version for output PDFs is now 1.5. In earlier release of DocConverter, the default PDF version for output PDFs was 1.4. You can use the CompatibilityLevelproperty to select other versions.
  • The default port for COM is now 52525. In earlier releases of DocConverter, the default port was 90 or 58585.

Bug Fixes

The following bugs were resolved since the last release.

ID #

Description

Resolution

4792

File specific: When using Print to PDF, only two pages of the three-page Excel file are converted to PDF.

The file contained a negative number for the DPI quality. The code was updated to handle such errors.

10137

Microsoft Word conversions: When a document file contains OpenType fonts and the conversion configuration is set to embed fonts, OpenType fonts are not embedded in the output PDF.

An option to bitmap missing fonts was add to the SetWordExportOptionsmethod in this software release. Enabling this option resolves this issue.

13259

File specific: When using PrintToPDF to convert this Excel spreadsheet, only the last sheet in was included in the output PDF.

This file contained an Excel spreadsheet that contained different DPI settings, a condition which triggers a known Excel bug when printing. Code was added to DocConverter to check for this condition and resolve it before conversions.

14312

When trying to convert this PDF file to PDFA, the conversion failed.

After a general update to the code base, this issue was resolved.

14330

When converting an EPS file that contained dimensions for a page size that was smaller than letter size, the smaller page size dimensions were ignored, and the output PDF was letter sized.

You can now edit the PostScriptProfiles.xml file to cause the conversion process to respect any non-standard page sizes found in an EPS source file.

See the KB article: Enabling Non-Standard Page Sizes for PostScript Conversions for full instructions.

14552

File specific: When attempting to convert this Postscript file to PDF, the conversion failed.

After a general update to the code base, this issue was resolved.

14582

DocConverter Configuration Manager: Although the Watch Folder profile was set to process input files found only in the root folder and ignore files in sub folders, the files in sub folders were converted as well.

An update to the code relating to how settings were scanned resolved this issue.

14647

DocConverter Configuration Manager: Although the PDF version setting was set to produce Version 1.3 PDF files, the output PDF files were Version 1.5.

After a general update to the code base, this issue was resolved.

14813

DocConverter Configuration Manager: When scheduling was set for a Watch Folder, the time duration was not saved.

An update to the code relating to how scheduling was calculated resolved this issue.

After a general update to the code base, this issue was resolved.

14851
